We hear it time and time again: Mobile is the new hotness. Big Data is the Next Big Thing.
But why is mobile on the rise? And how much? And what, actually, is Big Data?
Fortunately, we have a couple of infographics today that will help shed some light on the two topics.
First off, from SAP, we have a look at the “Rise of the mobile Data Lovers” from their “LoveHateData” blog, which has something for data lovers and something for data haters. It’s chock filled with data on why mobile is so ascendant. Tidbits such as this: Of the 7 billion people in the world today, 4 billion use mobile phones. Just 3.5 billion own toothbrushes. Yes, there are more people on mobile than using a toothbrush. It says something about the reach of mobile, though – it’s far more than a first-world phenomenon. Thanks to Visually, where we first spotted it:
Next, we have a look at Big Data and Data Analytics, going back to 1890. That was the birth of the U.S. Census, which is the ultimate in Big Data. This one is from Deloitte SA, by way of Visually.
