Strengthened by “native” social ads, BIA/Kelsey predicts US Social Media advertising to reach $9.2 billion in 2016, up from an estimated $4.6 billion ion 2012. That is a five year compound annual growth rate of 19.2%. “Native” social ads are defined by the BIA/Kelsey report as branded content within a social network experience, such as the newsfeed or content stream.
Mobile also is seen as a growth area for social media.
Social-mobile ad revenues are expected to rise to $1.5 billion on 2016 from an estimated $500 million in 2012.
Personally, I am seeing incredible adoption of mobile advertising and believe it will grow faster than predicted by BIA/Kelsey. Having been in the online advertising space for well over a decade, I have never seen brands gravitate toward a particular ad medium as strongly as I have seen with mobile.
It’s an easy medium to understand and the realization that you can reach your target consumer anywhere at anytime is very compelling.
BIA/Kelsey highlighted additional findings from their social local media forecast at the Interactive Media West (ILM West) conference last week in Los Angeles.
